Dr. Trevor Townsend is a graduate of the University of The West Indies, (BSc. Civil Eng. 1st Class Honours), The University of Manitoba, (MSc. Civil Engineering, majoring in Transportation Engineering) and Northwestern University, (Ph.D. Transportation Systems Engineering). He is a Fellow of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (F.ITE), The Chartered Institute of Highways and Transport (F. CIHT) the Association of Professional Engineers of Trinidad & Tobago (F.APETT) and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (M.ASCE). He is a Registered Engineer with the BOETT and a Chartered Engineer (EC.UK). Dr. Townsend has worked in both the public and private sectors during his career in the areas of traffic & transportation engineering, public transportation, and public policy with regard to infrastructural development. He has been engaged as a private consultant on a number of transportation policy, transportation planning and traffic impact assessment studies. Dr. Townsend started his career in the public service and held the post of Chief Traffic Engineer, Traffic Management Branch, Ministry of Works & Transport. He went to the Public Transport Service Corporation as General Manager from 1988- 1998. During the period 1998- 2014 he worked in manufacturing as a Chief Executive Officer dealing with the challenges of sustaining small and medium sized manufacturing companies in today’s competitive global environment. In 2014, Dr. Townsend joined the staff of the University of The West Indies as the Senior Lecturer in Traffic and Transportation Engineering, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering. He recently retired as the Head of the Department and is now an Adviser on Transportation Engineering Projects to the Engineering Institute, Faculty of Engineering, St. Augustine. Dr. Townsend has served as a member of the Board of NIPDEC and NIDCO. Dr. Townsend was also a member of the Board of TTMA from 2005 to 2012 and served as Chairman of the TTMA Port, Transport & Logistics Committee. He is currently Immediate Past President of the Association of Professional Engineers of Trinidad & Tobago.
