Dr Leighton A. Ellis is a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering at The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. He is an award-winning teacher. Dr Ellis describes himself as a Pracademic, given his other roles in civil engineering practice. Dr. Ellis is a Chartered Civil Engineer (CEng MICE) with Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and is registered with the Engineering Council (ECUK). He is also a registered Professional Engineer in Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica. He currently serves as the Regional Chair of the ICE Americas and the Vice President of Engineering Affairs with the Jamaica Institution of Engineers (JIE). His main research interests are in the areas of Engineering Education, Sustainable Construction, Circular Economy, and Engineering Leadership and Innovation.
