Dr. George Krishna Sammy

Dr. Sammy is an Environmental Engineer based in Trinidad and Tobago and operating throughout the Caricom Region. He is a recognized expert in the field of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), having pioneered this methodology in the West Indies. George joined the Association of Professional Engineers of Trinidad and Tobago (APETT) in 1976, and presently holds the rank of Fellow. He is also a Registered Engineer with the Board of Engineering of Trinidad and Tobago. In 1987, Dr. Sammy recommended that APETT institute an Annual Technical Conference, and when this recommendation was accepted he served as Chairman of the Conference Committee from 1988 to 1991; planning and overseeing the first three conferences. He was also a member of the Journal Committee from 1988 to 1994, serving as its Chairman from 1991 to 1994. Dr. Sammy worked as a Civil Engineer from 1974 to 1988, and as an Environmental Engineer thereafter. In both disciplines he has worked on a wide range of project types: Oil and Gas Sector, Water Supply, Manufacturing Industry, Roads and Highways, Ports and Shoreline Protection, Airports, Land Development for Housing and Industrial Estates, etc. He founded the firm of Ecoengineering Consultants Limited in 1991, and is presently its Chief Executive Officer. Dr George Sammy received an APETT for Outstanding Engineering Achievement in 2014, A NIHERST Award for Excellence in Science and Technology in 2015 and a Career of Engineering Excellence Award from APETT in 2020. Dr. Sammy is the lead author of “A Handbook for Environmental Impact Assessment Practitioners in the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States”, published in July, 2021.
